Having slept until a reasonable hour, we forayed off to a town halfway between Eskilstuna and Stockholm in the late morning. This town, called Mariefred, is an idyllic small town with colorful wooden houses lying on the shores of Lake Mälaren. Its crowning jewel, and main attaction is Gripsholm's Castle--which was the home of the royal family until 1713. Considered a "must see" for visitors to Sweden, this was Alyssa's 4th or 5th trip there and was the first thing she saw with her host family for sightseeing in August 1998.
The weather was back to its beautiful state, yet again (Alyssa wasn't lying when she said that when Sweden is beautiful, its really beautiful) and we enjoyed seeing the sites at a more leisurely pace than the last three days.
We saw the castle, which now houses the Royal Portrait collection, and walked around its grounds, departing then to grab a bite to eat and stroll the town.
