Retro-Gaming

Besides puzzles and Interactive fiction, I do love old and old-school video games. I do play with Alyssa on an old Sega Genesis (yay!) on which we own every Sonic made for the Genesis, Sega CD, and 32x.

I also play around with various emulators, not just to play games, but to play around with funky old software. One game I do love to play on an emulator (albeit not a platform emulator, but an engine emulator) is Ultima 7 (Parts 1 & 2). The emulator is Exult and the games are still as brilliant as they were 13 years ago.

Beyond that I love old school shoot-em-ups (Bari Arm for Sega CD is one of my favorites, as is rRootage [Mac port]). Two buttons and everything is a target. Definitely the type of game that is perfect for an overworked web developer with only 15 min of time to spare at a go.

I don't just love old consoles, old genres, and emulation, but I also dig some modern remakes, since as Retrospec's remakes of the old Spectrum game Head Over Heels. Ah... pure genius and it looks sparkly and new.

Admittedly, I do have a Wii and I love it, but nothing beats old games.
